James Lewis has gathered over 170,000 people on Instagram who are happy to see what he’s up to on a daily basis. He’s amazing at 3D lettering, a skill that’s been gaining popularity recently thanks to social platforms such as Instagram and Reddit. Lewis is not new at this; his work has been featured in publications like Creative Review, The Guardian, Behance, etc.

“My typographic journey began around 6 years ago when I was just 15 years old. A true digital native, my creative outlet was: photo manipulation art, and designing graphics & short introduction animations for my fellow YouTube creatives, most of which centered around conveying ideas through typography,” The artist told 3rdrail.

The hardest part of any project is getting started! . When @andycloned first asked me to join his @makers.athletic.society movement I was reluctant to get active. The daunting idea of getting back in the gym put me off starting. When making the decision to share one artwork in progress video every week, I was apprehensive. . The thought of such a commitment was daunting, I doubted my own determination. . The first month was tough, The second was easier, By the third month, it was my favourite activity of the week! . What experiences do YOU enjoy most, and want to have more of in your life? . I was still studying Graphic Design at university when I asked myself that important question. . I’ve always loved to travel, visiting exciting places, and meeting new people was a passion of mine, but didn’t know how I was going to turn that into a lifestyle. . I wasn’t going to take the ‘normal’ route of working 9-5 and saving Money for one, maybe two, holidays a year so I decided to find a way I could include travel into my career. . By developing a unique skillset, spending countless hours marketing these skills, all whilst consistently and transparently sharing my progress, I managed to turn my dream Into a reality. . It’s easy to get caught in the trap of rushing to finish what you’re working on, convincing yourself that it won’t make a difference… But doing this you neglect all the crucial details that often make or break a piece of art/ design. . I was so excited after sending out my newest font to 30 of my creative friends and getting such great feedback! . But, despite the response, I still don’t think it’s ready. I’ve decided to postpone the launch for one final month. . I know I can make it better and get this font looking & performing it’s best for you all. . This painting is based on a font that I’ve been working on since December 2017 called VERSA. . VERSA will be the most VERSATILE layered font on the market and it will be ready in one month. .
