Korean artist Young-sung Kim is creating oil paintings of fish swimming in
glass bowls that look so realistic, you’ll have a hard time believing they’re
actually paintings. To paint these marvelous works of art, Kim has to use minuscule
brushes in order to create every tiny detail of his artworks.
This series of paintings named Nothing. Life. Object. is Kim’s way of commenting on the problems that modern society is facing right now. As a result of “advanced development of material civilizations,” the artist thinks we’re often forgetting about other living organisms.
“Despite
that they are living things with meaning and value of existence, the humans
only use them for clear purposes when we have certain reasons. In the modern
society, this structure is applied to the relationships between men, men and
organization, or men and society. Humans, a living organism, is sometimes
considered and used as a functional object”, Kim says.
