Netherlands-Based Artist Takes Her Inspiration Directly From Nature

Birgitt Olislagers admits she’s in love with creating, whether it’s graphic design, art, or gardening. With nature being her biggest inspiration, the Netherlands-based artist focuses mainly on illustration and embroidery, creating intricate works that are directly inspired by plants and flowers.

“Nature is my biggest inspiration,” she writes on her website, explaining that “with the coming and going of seasons there is always something to discover. Whether it’s small like a flower in bloom or big as the ever-changing lights and colors in the sky, all you have to do is take a step back, really look around you and find that there is beauty everywhere. “

But her relationship with nature took some time to develop. “When I was younger I wasn’t interested in nature at all, plants were these horrible demanding things and I even killed a cactus at one point,” she relayed in an interview with Life in Maastricht.

“Now nature has become this wonderful thing in my life that gives me instant gratification. When I walk through the forest, nature keeps surprising me with hidden beauty, waiting to be found by whoever wants to take the time to appreciate it. It’s the ideal place to clear your head and let the surroundings take over.”

Her appreciation for nature is clearly present throughout her work, whether it’s her art or textile prints, botanical hoops or postcards. Take a look at some of her refreshing creations in the gallery below.
