The fans of the classic movie franchise Godzilla can now enjoy a wide range of art inspired by its eponymous monster thanks to an exhibition organized by Parco Museum in Tokyo, Japan.
Currently on display, the showcase, titled GODZILLA THE ART, is the fourth installment of the project that celebrates the 70th anniversary of Godzilla’s first appearance in Ishirō Honda’s 1954 movie of the same name.
The event is curated by the reputable art gallery NANZUKA and features the works of 15 international artists, including Haroshi, Hiroki Tsukuda, James Jarvis, and Roby Dwi Antono. Each artist created a unique piece specifically for this exhibition, with Japanese artist Tetsuya Nakamura in charge of the “key visuals.”
“I paid tribute to the ancestors who have created Godzilla, and carefully repeated trial and error. In 1964, the violent and cool Godzilla motif focused on the beauty of the form and amplified my image of Godzilla,” Nakamura shared in a statement.
Since its big screen debut, Godzilla has been featured in 30 movies and three animated works produced in Japan, as well as five Hollywood films. The character also appeared in all sorts of other media, including video games, comics, books, and more.
