Artist Arna Miller Creates Miyazaki-Inspired Print

Arna Miller is an artist from Denver who is known for creating whimsical vintage illustrations on matchboxes. This time, she’s in for something different – a print inspired by Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.

The print she made references the scene from one of Miyazaki’s movies, Ponyo.

“In the movie,” she says, “the five-year-old main character, Sosuke, shows a group of elderly ladies the goldfish that he found. One woman, Yoshi, recoils and says ‘Fish with faces who come out of the sea cause tsunamis. That’s what they always say.’”

“Which,” Miller adds, “turns out to be correct.”
