Newspaper Sculptures by Atsushi Adachi

Atsushi Adachi is a visual artist from Japan who creates detailed replicas of various objects using old newspapers. He uses articles and clippings from the newspaper that date from the same period as the piece he’s replicating. Some of his most prominent works include Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit, battleships, etc.

For Adachi, newspapers are time machines that can transport us to a certain period in the most authentic way. He doesn’t just use the paper to make the objects, he also reads the clippings to learn more about that period and understand why people made certain things the way they did.

Adachi’s work was recently displayed as a part of the Emerging Tokyo exhibition in East Harlem in New York, but you can check it out all year round on his Instagram page.
