Summer is right around the corner, with all its colorful happiness. But in the meanwhile, we’re soaking some sun with Camilla Perkins’ brightly colored illustrations.
Through bold colors and textiles, Perkins’ illustrations and paintings spark joy and liveliness. Her method involves using a black pen or paint onto acetate and then scratching every detail on the surface with a knife. Her pieces are then scanned, and the colors are added on or adjusted using Photoshop.
Her art has a handmade feel to it, adding a naive dimension to her pieces, that evoke childhood memories and feelings of longing.
Although based in the UK, a lot of her work is dedicated to the vibrancy of African city life. “I’ve always been attracted to the bright colors and organic shapes of African prints,” she explained to The Guardian. “They have the amazing ability to tell a story and to both look modern and ancient at the same time.”
