Situated in a civic area with several cultural institutions, the National Museum of Qatar gives voice to the rich history of the country and its people.
Ateliers Jean Nouvel designed the new museum in Doha, inspired by a mineral formation know as a “desert rose.”
“Symbolically, its architecture evokes the desert, its silent and eternal dimension, but also the spirit of modernity and daring that have come along and shaken up what seemed unshakeable,” Nouvel said about the Museum according to My Modern Met. “So it’s the contradictions in that history that I’ve sought to evoke here.”
The visitors can expect to discover the history of Qatar as they are led through numerous galleries that measure almost a mile (1.5km) long. The new massive architecture also incorporates a notable palace that was originally the national museum.
“I hope they will come out with a deeper understanding of life in this ancient and modern land, and a greater sense of wonder at all it offers the world,” Nouvel added.
