Kinetic art is always impressive, but the way the Catalan painter Sergi Cadenas does it is particularly stunning.
This talented self-taught artist is able to create multiple distinctive portraits in just one painting. From one side, Cadenas’ paintings look just like a regular portrait. But as the viewer walks to the other side, the painting slowly transforms into a completely different portrait.
Some of the transformations in his works include Marilyn Monroe turning into Albert Einstein and a portrait of a dog turning into a portrait of his owner.
The way Cadenas is able to achieve this effect is by painting on vertical stripes. He paints one portrait on each side of the stripe, which allows the gradual change of the artwork.
